The Simple Power concept grew from the April 2010 announcement by DETI NI that incentives paid to renewable energy projects would increase, particularly for wind turbines below 250kW capacity. This small but significant change in focus is central to the Simple Power business model.Northern Ireland currently produces around 10% of its electricity from renewable sources, mostly through large-scale wind farm projects. DETI has, however, realised that more medium-scale turbines, located throughout the region, would be a significant help in meeting the renewable energy target of 40% by 2020.
